Arsenal is ready to reward midfield wizard Mesut Ozil with a weekly £200,000 wage, according to the Daily Mirror's John Cross, as negotiations over a new long-term contract reach an advanced stage.

Knowing their client has played some of the best football of his life, the player's representatives reportedly made a push over the international break to get a deal done.

Ozil has 18 months remaining on his current agreement with the Gunners, though there's an understanding the Germany international is happy to extend his stay in north London.

Cross notes Ozil has even purchased a new £10-million home.

Under the proposed terms, the 28-year-old would become Arsenal's highest-paid player.

With seven goals and three assists across all competitions, Ozil has inspired comparisons to Arsenal legend Dennis Bergkamp.

But manager Arsene Wenger cautioned "you need to stay for a long time" to become a club legend.

The way negotiations are going, Ozil could have that chance.
