Klopp wants 'anger' from Liverpool for Hull visit

Jurgen Klopp doesn't want Liverpool to be one of the nice guys this season, calling for "anger" from his troops in Saturday's visit from Hull City.

The Reds showed flashes of brilliance last season, but it was a frustrating English initiation for the German gaffer as his side habitually followed up those performances with accommodating defending - sometimes paired with profligacy in attack.

Now, off the back of a morale-boosting 2-1 win at Chelsea in its last Premier League outing, Klopp is keen for Liverpool to kick on with no signs of complacency against a defensively minded opponent.

"We need to be angry against Hull because they want our points," Klopp explained. "That makes me angry!

"We are able to create chances against all teams. So many people think we have a problem against bus parking but I cannot remember a lot of space against Chelsea or (the 1-1 draw at) Tottenham."

Liverpool has an average of 55 percent possession from the opening five fixtures, adding extra control to its play rather than just the high-octane gegenpressing style. Much of this has been attributed to Jordan Henderson's steady work in the midfield, and the smart interweaving coming courtesy of Roberto Firmino's runs and vision higher up the pitch.

It's an approach that Klopp will stubbornly adhere to, regardless of the opposition.

"We are 100 percent aware of the difficulties we can have in this game," Klopp continued. "For the players, it's important we learn to take it as it is. Missing a chance is positive because it means you have a chance. That's the most difficult thing in football to create moments to score.

"We haven't just scored goals from counter attacks. We didn't score against Arsenal only out of counter-attacks. We've scored goals against good defending teams."

The Reds follow the hosting of Hull with a trip to Swansea City and then a rivals' battle against Manchester United on Oct. 17.
