Wales' Ramsey out for World Cup qualifier vs. Moldova due to injury

Aaron Ramsey will not partake in Wales' opening 2018 World Cup qualifier, as manager Chris Coleman left the injured midfielder out of his squad for the Dragons' clash with Moldova on Sept. 5.

Ramsey, one of the standout players at Euro 2016, picked up a hamstring problem in Arsenal's first match of the Premier League season on Aug. 14.

While Arsene Wenger maintains that the ailment isn't serious, Ramsey won't be fit in time for Wales' upcoming contest, and Coleman - likely in conjunction with the Arsenal boss - has decided not to risk aggravating the issue.

Wales, slotted alongside Austria, Serbia, Ireland, Moldova, and Georgia in its World Cup qualifying group, is looking to reach the tournament for the first time since 1958.

Expectations are high after a magical run to the semifinals of Euro 2016, but Coleman remains grounded.

"I'm very proud of Wales and what we achieved. But it's what's next now," the bench boss said. "It's not (about) recreating what we had in France. It's creating something different for a different challenge."
