Defending champ Leicester City draws Arsenal in home opener

Leicester City and Arsenal continue their search for a first win of the season after they drew 0-0 in Saturday's clash at King Power Stadium in the defending Premier League champion Foxes' home opener.

With Wes Morgan standing out at the heart of the defense, Leicester sported a relentless work rate reminiscent of last season, something which they lacked in their 2-1 season-opening loss at Hull. But they came up against an equally hard-working Arsenal outfit.

It was the Gunners who shaded the first half in terms of control and creativity, especially in the final third. Their pace on the wings was undeniable, and indeed the wide quartet of Hector Bellerin, Theo Walcott, Nacho Monreal and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain got in behind the Leicester rearguard a number of times. But without target man Olivier Giroud, it proved too difficult to find a way through the Foxes' well-disciplined duo of Morgan and Robert Huth.

Referee Mark Clattenburg turned down strong penalty claims deep into the first half when Leicester's Danny Drinkwater appeared to be tripped by Laurent Koscielny in the first period's most significant moment.

The second half was a complete stalemate as the two well-organised sides made sure that sights of goal were few and far between. Jamie Vardy blazed over under heavy pressure from Koscielny in the Foxes' best chance, while Arsenal's best effort was a meek shot from Walcott.

A second, this time blatant, penalty appeal was waved away when Bellerin dragged Ahmed Musa to the ground in the final stages.

It wasn't so much a poor display from the frontmen, rather an excellent performance from both defences. That's something both sides can take away as they continue to seek their first league win of the season.
