Pochettino: Lloris suffered hamstring injury vs. Everton

Reuters

Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris picked up a hamstring injury in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Everton, manager Mauricio Pochettino confirmed, but there's no word yet as to the severity of the problem.

The reason for Lloris' departure from the match wasn't immediately known. Backup Michel Vorm replaced the French starter in the 35th minute.

It was only after Saturday's contest at Goodison Park that confirmation arrived of the 29-year-old's issue.

"We need to assess Hugo tomorrow. It's impossible to say but it's a hamstring injury," said Pochettino.

To his credit, Vorm acquitted himself well in relief of his teammate. He made a great reaction save against Gerard Deulofeu in first-half stoppage time, and kept things clean in the second stanza.

Lloris most likely suffered the injury as he attempted to keep out Ross Barkley's free-kick. He instead mistimed his dive and conceded the opening goal in the fifth minute.

Erik Lamela's scrappy header gave Spurs an important equaliser in the second stanza.

Lloris had a similar concern in extra time of the Euro 2016 final. He appeared to tweak his leg after crashing against the post, and laboured immediately afterwards. Portugal's Eder scored the tournament-winning goal moments later.

Lloris hardly saw any preseason action, either. This was just his second club match since the Euros this summer.
