Gonzalo Castro nets brace as Borussia Dortmund humbles Manchester United

Gonzalo Castro will be the answer to a trivia question in years to come.

On Friday, Castro became the first player to score against Manchester United since Jose Mourinho was appointed as the Red Devils' manager, scoring twice as Borussia Dortmund thrashed the English club 4-1 in a pre-season friendly at the Shanghai Stadium that is part of the International Champions Cup.

Both clubs took the pitch without a slew of key players, and the fixture was played in stifling heat, but Dortmund looked like the team whose pre-season preparations are more developed. Of particular encouragement to the German team was the performance by Castro, who scored two goals, including a 20-yard screamer that left Sergio Romero grasping air in the 86th minute.

As for United, Mourinho will surely be heartened by what he saw from Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who scored the Red Devils' lone goal and demonstrated his quality throughout the match.

United will take on Manchester City, its eternal rival, on Monday in the next International Champions Cup game to be played in China. Dortmund and the Citizens will then do battle three days later.
