Hayden rose through the ranks at Arsenal's youth academy before making his senior debut in 2013. But the 21-year-old struggled to break into the first team and spent the 2015-16 campaign on loan at Hull City, where he made 24 appearances in defence and helped the Tigers win promotion to the Premier League.

He's set to play in the Championship once again this season after Newcastle was relegated last term. However, Hayden insisted he is prepared for yet another battle to win promotion.

"Newcastle is a massive football club and to be given the opportunity to come here and progress my career is fantastic," Hayden told the team's website.

"Being at Arsenal was a great experience, I learnt a lot there and have a lot to thank them for, but I needed to move on and so when Newcastle came in for me I jumped at the chance.

"I am still young but I want to get as many games under my belt as I can and help the team bounce back to the Premier League."

Manager Rafa Benitez outlined the qualities Hayden brings to St James' Park, saying the defender fits the mould of the type of players Newcastle needs to get back into England's top flight.

"We continue with our plan to bring in players who are hungry to succeed and prove themselves, which Isaac really is.

"He is also a player who can play in different positions, which is very useful."
