Report: Vardy feels Arsenal's style doesn't suit him

Jamie Vardy reportedly cited a contrast in playing style as his primary reason for snubbing Arsenal.

The Leicester City forward is fresh off agreeing to a new four-year contract that will keep him with the Premier League champion following weeks of unrest over his future when Arsenal triggered the release clause in Vardy's contract.

A move to north London initially appeared to be on the horizon once news of Arsenal's interest emerged. But the delay in Vardy's decision before Euro 2016 led to doubts, with Gunners manager Arsene Wenger recently stating that the deal for the 29-year-old had fallen through.

The star rejected the move due to a belief the difference in playing style under Wenger would leave Vardy unlikely to replicate his successful 2015-16 campaign, sources told Ben Reynolds of Sky Sports.

Vardy reportedly felt Arsenal's preference to maintain possession would make for a difficult transition after thriving in a system at Leicester that relied heavily on the counter-attack - a style that ultimately helped the Foxes win the Premier League title for the first time in the team's history.

Reynolds adds that Vardy is also encouraged by a belief that Leicester can repeat the feat, as well as find success when the team competes in the Champions League this fall.

Vardy will sign his new Leicester City contract when he returns from his duties with the English national team at Euro 2016 in France.
