Wenger expects Vardy to snub Arsenal, remain at Leicester

After all that, it looks like Jamie Vardy won't actually be trading in his Leicester City blue for Arsenal red.

The lithe striker was thought to be on the verge of a move to the Gunners ahead of Euro 2016, as the London-based club reportedly triggered his £22-million release clause. Arsenal supporters waited, and waited, and then waited some more.

Optimism over a deal has started to wane, and recent comments from bench boss Arsene Wenger won't allay concerns that the club has missed out on the blistering forward.

"No, no. Jamie Vardy is at the moment at Leicester, and on what I know he will stay at Leicester," Wenger said in an interview with Chinese television.

Since Vardy took flight with his England teammates, he's maintained throughout his time in France that he is focusing solely on the Three Lions and not his club future - despite the fact that everyone else in the Premier League seems to be doing precisely the latter.

Vardy opened his Euro 2016 account in England's 2-1 victory over Wales, coming off the bench to find the net in the second half, and is being tipped to start the team's next match against Slovakia.
