Report: Manchester City eyeing club-less Valdes
Although he was released by Manchester United a few days ago, Victor Valdes would be wise to delay plans for packing, as rival Manchester City has reportedly expressed interest in the World Cup-winning shot-stopper.
With speculation surfacing that City's second-choice 'keeper Willy Caballero is poised for a La Liga return with one year left on his deal at the Etihad, the club's targeting Valdes to deputise for England No. 1 Joe Hart, according to Sid Lowe of the Guardian.
Valdes, 34, joined United two years ago on the heels of a decorated two-decade tenure at Barcelona.
It was a damaged relationship from the outset. Valdes made just two appearances for the Red Devils during the 2014-15 campaign after signing an 18-month deal with them.
Following a highly publicised falling-out with manager Louis van Gaal, Valdes was loaned to Standard Liege, where he made six appearances for the Belgian side before having his loan cut short in April.
A move for Valdes makes sense when considering his spell playing under incoming manager Pep Guardiola with the Catalan giant. Together, the two won both a La Liga and Champions League title at Barcelona. The trophies represent just two of the 21 Valdes has lifted since joining the club as a 10-year-old in 1992.
