Memphis shares frustration with United role under Van Gaal

Manchester United's out-of-favour summer signing Memphis Depay has followed the popular trend of badmouthing the club's former manager after his sacking, lamenting his role under Louis van Gaal.

Days after being left off the team sheet for United's joint-record 12th FA Cup victory, the 22-year-old posted a candid video on his Facebook page recounting his challenging first season in the Premier League.

"Last season, I was playing and I was scoring every game. This year, it's 50-50, 50 percent of the games in the season I have played, I have some games on the bench for 90 minutes as well," Memphis said.

"That's new and that's hard and that pisses you off, to be honest, sometimes. But you need to keep going, keep believing in yourself."

"It's not been a bad year and it's not been a good year. It's right there in the middle. I have more expectations for myself and the fans as well, and that's normal."

After it took £25 million to pry the Dutch international from PSV Eindhoven, Memphis appeared in 29 Premier League matches, coming on as a sub 13 times. He scored twice in the league, coupled with three in Europe, in what was nothing short of a disappointing year for both club and player.

"It's been new for me this season, to play in the Premier League, but the experience I get this year is important."

While the Premier League can prove difficult to adapt to, if he thought his tenure under Van Gaal was a challenge, Friday's much-speculated appointment of Jose Mourinho may present a new set of obstacles for the robust winger.

"That's my motto: Dream, believe and achieve," Memphis said. But I don't want to give up on anything."
