Report: Manchester United to offer Michael Carrick new 1-year deal

Reuters

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick is reportedly set to extend his stay at Old Trafford, as ESPN FC reports he's soon to be offered a new contract.

The 35-year-old has been a mainstay in the United camp for much of the past decade since joining the club out of Tottenham in 2006. While his contract was set to expire at the end of the 2015-16 campaign, talks of a new deal were reportedly put on hold as the Red Devils worked to first sign a new manager.

Louis van Gaal was relieved of his duties Monday and it's widely believed that former Chelsea man Jose Mourinho will take charge of the club by the end of the week.

Manchester United is preparing to offer Carrick a one-year extension, similar to the deal the two parties struck last summer. ESPN FC reports that Mourinho has also agreed to the deal.
