Hodgson hopes Rashford will make England debut on Friday

Roy Hodgson's conservative reputation is being shaken to the core, as Marcus Rashford is in line to make his debut for England's national team.

After Rashford was included in Hodgson's provisional squad for Euro 2016 at a time when the Football Association didn't even have a headshot of the 18-year-old for its website, the English manager said Monday that the teenager could take the pitch on Friday, when England and Australia meet in a friendly at the Stadium of Light.

Rashford, who was five years old when Wayne Rooney made his debut for England, was declared fit after suffering an injury in Manchester United's 2-1 extra-time victory over Crystal Palace in Saturday's FA Cup final.

Asked if Rashford will make his debut for England, Hodgson said, according to Daniel Taylor of the Guardian: "We'd hope so, yes. I'm not planning an experimental team but we have only three preparation games and already quite a lot of people - seven players - have missed the first one. I have to take those things into consideration and also the juxtaposition of players who need games and others who don't because they have had so many games during the season. I will take all those things into account because by the time we come to the Portugal match (at Wembley on June 2) I want a pretty good idea of the team I'm thinking about for the start of the tournament."

Whether or not Rashford is included in England's final 23-man squad for Euro 2016 remains to be seen. Hodgson admitted he doesn't know what to expect from the youngster, but that "there is no doubt" he made the right decision in including him in the Three Lions' provisional squad.

Given that England played with two forwards rather than one in its 2-1 win versus Turkey on Sunday, it would make a lot of sense for Hodgson to call up Rashford, who would provide the Three Lions with some depth on the bench.
