Kane: Chelsea was 'celebrating like they won the league'

Harry Kane is obviously downbeat after Tottenham Hotspur's failure to win at Chelsea, but sees the Blues' celebrations at earning a 2-2 comeback draw a sign of how far Spurs have come this season.

After Monday's match, Mauricio Pochettino's side are an insurmountable seven points short of surprise league winner Leicester City, but Kane is heartened after what was a valiant push and show of progress by the north London club.

"When the ex-champions are celebrating like they won the league at the end, it shows that we're doing something right," Kane told BBC Sport after the game.

"We've just got to keep doing what we're doing, we've got a great bunch of lads, a great manager, great staff and we've just got to keep that and keep moving forward."

The emergence of players such as Dele Alli and Eric Dier helped Tottenham resemble a fierce title contender for much of the season, but now many will point to the indiscipline of this pairing in particular as potentially taking the wheels off Tottenham's title drive. Alli served the first match of a three-game suspension against Chelsea after a punching incident, while Dier was lucky not to see red from referee Mark Clattenburg after a series of crunching tackles.

Erik Lamela and Mousa Dembele could have their seasons ended due to misconduct at Stamford Bridge.

"We're gutted. We've had a great season. Credit to Leicester. Well done to them for winning the league. They've been fantastic this season," Kane added.

"We done all we could, we fought until the end, but it's something we've got to learn from.

"I'm proud of everyone, I'm proud of the club and we've just got to keep moving in the right direction, finish the season off well now and look forward to next season."

A paltry consolation for Tottenham fans could be finishing above arch-rival Arsenal for the first time since 1995. Kane and his teammates welcome Southampton to White Hart Lane on Sunday, hours before Arsenal kick off at Manchester City.
