Tottenham's Dembele, Lamela could see FA bans

Tottenham's Mousa Dembele and Erik Lamela could join teammate Dele Alli on the sidelines for the club's last two matches if the Football Association (FA) sees fit to discipline the pair for their conduct in Monday's volatile 2-2 draw against Chelsea.

A once-promising title chase came crashing to earth at Stamford Bridge, not only ending Tottenham's Premier League ambitions but possibly marking the end of the season for a host of Spurs.

The FA planned to consult match referee Mark Clattenburg on Tuesday morning, according to Sky Sports' Mark Ashenden, and both clubs will likely be fined for breaching FA rules concerning "mass confrontation" in a second-half skirmish.

In a fashion similar to Alli's three-match ban, the FA can use video evidence to retrospectively ban the Tottenham pair for their behaviour.

During a melee on the touchline stemming from a Danny Rose tackle on Willian, Dembele appeared to scratch Chelsea striker Diego Costa in the eye, while Lamela may be punished for stomping on Cesc Fabregas' hand in a second half when several Tottenham players lost their cool.

Spurs also face an automatic fine of £25,000 for the nine players cautioned during the match - the most yellow cards a club has received in one fixture.

A second fracas after the final whistle could also result in suspensions and fines, as the sides confronted one another near the tunnel and Spurs full-back Rose bowled over Chelsea gaffer Guus Hiddink.

Clattenburg could do very little in a second half teeming with tough tackles and ill-advised challenges. Eric Dier should have seen red for a trio of studs-up tackles, and Dembele, Lamela, and Rose could all have been sent off for violent conduct.
