Report: Arsenal to battle Chelsea for Dortmund's Mkhitaryan
Arsenal and Chelsea could be the main contenders in this summer's race to sign playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Borussia Dortmund.
After rebounding this season to record a sensational 22 assists across all competitions, Mkhitaryan has designs on a move to London, according to the Mirror's John Cross. The Blues have reportedly made enquiries about the 27-year-old, but the lure of Champions League football could send Mkhitaryan in the direction of Emirates Stadium.
Manager Arsene Wenger already has the likes of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez in attacking midfield positions, but another big-name signing could generate positive buzz after a disappointing Premier League season.
Arsenal appeared the favorite for the title by Christmas time, leading the league for a brief time before slipping down the standings and into a familiar battle for fourth place. Leicester City, on the verge of sealing an incredible first top-flight crown, eliminated the north London club from the title race last weekend.
Meanwhile, Mkhitaryan, who is out of contract at the end of next season, has enjoyed a revival in his third campaign with the German club. Manager Thomas Tuchel has coaxed a further 19 goals out of the Armenian international, a fine return to form for a player who struggled to find the back of the net or even hit the target during Jurgen Klopp's final season in charge of Dortmund.
