Borussia Moenchengladbach and Union Berlin played out a goalless draw at Borussia-Park on Sunday that left neither team safe from the threat of relegation.

Union picked only their second point since their last Bundesliga win, on March 30 and have scored only once in their last five games.

After a game of few big chances that neither side could afford to lose, the Foals sit two points clear of Union having won just one of their last eight league games.

Union climbed to 14th, overtaking Bochum by one goal on goal difference.

Mainz are three points further back in 16th, the relegation playoff spot, ahead of their game with 17th-placed Cologne later on Sunday.

Union qualified for the Champions League for the first time last year but the fairytale has turned sour with coach Urs Fischer leaving in November and the club flirting with relegation for much of this campaign.

Union next face Cologne.
