Hart: 'No point in turning up' unless we think we can win Champions League

Joe Hart has sent out a rallying cry ahead of Manchester City's trip to Dynamo Kyiv, saying his side can win the Champions League if it approaches games with the correct mindset.

City travels to Ukraine having never advanced beyond the last-16 stage, and Hart believes that attitude is just as important as the club's supposed superiority to Dynamo ahead of the midweek clash.

"We've got to believe that (City can win it) or else there is no point in turning up on Wednesday," he said, according to Jamie Jackson of the Guardian. "We've got to believe that we've got what it takes. You know, it's the best of the best, and if you're not at your best you will lose, simple as that, in this competition. So it's all about peaking for the game and being in the right place at the right time."

City can take confidence from the performances of Juventus last season. The Old Lady made the final, beating Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid along the way, but this year was beaten to top spot of Group D by Manuel Pellegrini's outfit.

"It's an amazing competition. It's something we really look forward to as a team. But we're very lucky that we're involved in a lot of competitions. This is a good time to be a Manchester City player and good time to be fighting."

Hart insists Dynamo won't be taken lightly in the first leg at the NSC Olimpiyskiy, but he is aware that it hasn't had a competitive outing since early December due to the Ukraine league's winter break.

"It depends how you want to look at it, they're either well rested or they could be rusty with the format of their league season, but that will all be decided after the game."

City could be boosted by the inclusion of Eliaquim Mangala after the defender's recovery from a hamstring problem. He hasn't featured since a loss at Everton in early January.
