The first matchday of the Champions League involved Premier League clubs stumbling out of the gates, as Chelsea was the only side to earn a victory while the United Kingdom's other three representatives all tasted defeat.

As a result, the Champions League Team of the Week, published on Friday, didn't feature a single Premier League player.

Rather, among the 11 individuals included in the 4-3-3 formation are Cristiano Ronaldo, who tallied a hat-trick in Real Madrid's 4-0 thrashing of Shakhtar Donetsk; Hakan Calhanoglu, who notched a brace in Bayer Leverkusen's 4-1 victory over BATE Borisov; and Antoine Griezmann, who also found the back of the net twice in Atletico Madrid's 2-0 win at Galatasaray.

At the back are Alessandro Florenzi, creator of a phenomenal 65-yard goal in AS Roma's 1-1 draw versus Barcelona, as well as Dante of VfL Wolfsburg, Leonardo Bonucci of Juventus, and Josip Pivaric of Dinamo Zagreb, all of whom helped their respective club kick off their Champions League campaign with three points.
