Atletico Madrid's Carrasco could miss Real Madrid tie due to shoulder injury

Yannick Carrasco may be sidelined for Atletico Madrid's Champions League semi-final encounter with rival Real Madrid after suffering a shoulder injury during Tuesday's loss to Villarreal.

The Belgian winger, who suffered the injury in the second half of Atletico's 1-0 loss, was diagnosed with a Grade 1 sprain in his shoulder.

It's an injury which Spanish outlet AS reports will take two weeks to heal, meaning Carrasco may not feature in the first leg of the Champions League tilt at the Santiago Bernabeu on May 2. The return leg at the Vicente Calderon takes place May 10.

A statement on Atletico's website read: "The Belgian was X-rayed and the report provided by the club's medical services indicates that he suffers a Grade 1 acromioclavicular joint sprain."

The Spanish side did not reveal a timetable for Carrasco's return.

The injury occurred shortly after the 23-year-old entered the match as a second-half substitute, as Carrasco fell awkwardly during a challenge to Villarreal's Antonio Rukavina.

Carrasco's loss would be a bitter blow to Atletico's hopes of beating its city rivals after being eliminated by Real in each of the last three Champions League competitions, including twice in the finals.

Carrasco has scored 14 goals and added four assists for Los Rojiblancos in all competitions this term.
