Guardiola: I'm 'approaching the end of my career'

Pep Guardiola has no interest in stalking training pitches when he's a pensioner, saying that the end of his coaching career could be sooner rather than later.

The Spanish manager guided Barcelona and Bayern Munich to 21 trophies in seven years, but at Manchester City has encountered a much tougher proposition. In Monday's edged 2-1 win over Burnley, Guardiola questioned the officiating in England compared to other countries, and on the whole didn't seem particularly interested in fulfilling his media duties.

Now, in an interview with NBC's Roger Bennett, the 45-year-old has indicated that he's considering his future when his contract winds down at the Etihad Stadium.

"Of course when we win, I am so happy, I am so satisfied," Guardiola said, as reported by ESPN FC. "And I drink a good glass of wine and enjoy.

"But what I like is to imagine the next step can be better. If not, I will not be here.

"In the moment, I will feel - and I am a little bit in that process - I feel that the end of my career, I will be... (throws up his hands). I will not be training in the 60 and 65 years old, so.... No, no, no, no.

"Manchester City is three years or maybe longer, but I am still approaching the end of my career, like a manager. I am pretty sure of it."

Guardiola has always been a student of the game, from when he roomed with Ronald Koeman as a youngster at Barcelona, to when he spent a brief sojourn with Sinaloa in Mexico in the swan song of his playing days, and he arrived at England with an appetite to learn more about football.

He took to it quickly, recording 10 consecutive wins before the cracks began to show in the lineup - Claudio Bravo's errors, the defence's tendency to switch off, indiscipline from certain members of the squad - to leave City seven points short of league leading Chelsea, albeit having played an extra match than Antonio Conte's outfit.

Manchester City next travels to West Ham United to kick-off the FA Cup third round on Friday.
