Watch: Rooney chips 'keeper to become United's top European scorer

Reuters

Wayne Rooney became Manchester United's top European goal-scorer by netting the opener in the first half of Thursday's Europa League clash with Feyenoord at Old Trafford.

The goal marked his 39th in European competition, one more than his former teammate Ruud van Nistelrooy, but it came in contentious fashion - Rooney appeared to shove Jens Toornstra over in the buildup, then beat the offside trap despite looking slightly behind the line from the side angle.

Still, Rooney will count them all the same, and United went into halftime up 1-0 looking to secure all three points in its effort to qualify for the next round.
