Hugo Lloris says Tottenham Hotspur needs to question its ability to compete on both domestic and continental fronts after the north London club was dumped from the Champions League group stages following a 2-1 loss to AS Monaco.

Through five matchdays in Group E, Spurs have collected a woeful four points. The final game in the group comes on Dec. 7 against CSKA Moscow, which will be a squabble over who takes third place and therefore qualifies for the knockout rounds of the Europa League.

"It makes for a lot of frustration, I can't hide that," Lloris told Sky Sports' Michael Kelleher. "We will talk between ourselves and try to find a solution.

"Maybe we are not ready to manage Premier League and Champions League campaigns at the same time, but we need to question ourselves about that."

The Champions League berth was its first since the 2010-11 season, but the losses to Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen at Wembley - its home in European competition due to UEFA deeming building work on White Hart Lane as "affecting access, capacity and rights delivery," the club revealed in May - didn't reflect the anticipation Spurs felt on their return to the continent's leading club competition.

"Everyone at the club was excited to play this competition and all the players too, but we failed all together," Lloris continued. "We had bigger expectations in this group stage. We will not go through, we are still fighting for the Europa League but it's not enough for a club like Spurs. It's a big disappointment.

"We need to digest this and look forward to the game at Chelsea on Saturday."
