Eskimos QB Mike Reilly named Grey Cup MVP
Edmonton Eskimos quarterback Mike Reilly was named the Grey Cup Most Valuable Player after leading his team to a 26-20 championship victory over the Ottawa RedBlacks.
Reilly threw for 269 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for a game-high 66 yards.
After going down 13-0 early, Reilly led the comeback. As the defence did its part - failing to allow a touchdown after the opening two drives - the quarterback went to work.
Despite being roughed up multiple times, he was able to make the big play when his counterpart, Henry Burris, couldn't.
For Reilly, it's a feel-good story. The 30-year-old suffered a knee injury early in the season which led many to believe he was done for the year.
But he returned after Labour Day to lead Edmonton to 10 consecutive victories and a Grey Cup.
Reilly's quarterback rating of 103.2 marked his fifth straight game over 100, while he failed to throw an interception against the CFL's second-ranked defence.
