Roughriders storm back to take down Alouettes in OT
Saskatchewan's rough-and-tumble campaign ended with a thrilling comeback win.
The Roughriders mounted a 30-24 overtime victory against the Montreal Alouettes in the final game of the CFL regular season.
Brett Smith was impeccable in relief of starter Keith Price, throwing for 188 yards and three touchdowns on 14-of-18 passing. This marks the end of the season for both squads, as neither qualified for the postseason.
Across the gridiron, the Alouettes handed the ball to Brandon Bridge, making him the 15th Canadian in CFL history to start a game at quarterback. He finished the day 21-of-30 for 220 yards, two touchdowns, and 45 rushing yards.
Although Montreal missed the playoffs for the first time since returning to the CFL in 1996, Alouettes tailback Tyrell Sutton gave his team something to be proud of: He claimed the league's rushing title, recording 132 yards on 19 carries on the day, giving him 1,053 this year.
The offseason will be an interesting one for both squads. The Alouettes will need to make some important personnel decisions both on and off the field.
Meanwhile, Saskatchewan's season was tough from the beginning as the Roughriders lost star quarterback Darian Durant. It'll be interesting to see if interim head coach Bob Dyce returns to the sideline.
