Mitchell's dominant performance helps Stampeders crush Roughriders
The Calgary Stampeders remain alive for first place in the West Division after dismantling the Saskatchewan Roughriders 42-19 on Saturday.
Running back Jerome Messam made his Stamps debut and posted 121 yards on the ground against his former team. Bo Levi Mitchell was not to be outdone, as the Calgary signal caller was a sparkling 21-of-29 for 247 yards and three touchdowns.
Calgary scored on its opening drive and never looked back, as Eric Rogers caught one of his two touchdown passes on the day to get the Stampeders offense rolling.
Weston Dressler was the lone bright spot for Saskatchewan, turning in 129 yards receiving. Brett Smith was replaced under center by Keith Price in the second half, who threw for 183 yards in relief.
The Stampeders will now be hoping the Edmonton Eskimos lose to the Montreal Alouettes on Sunday. Should that happen and Calgary knocks off the BC Lions next week, then the Stamps would claim first place in the West.
