Eskimos keep Roughriders winless
One day, the Saskatchewan Roughriders will win a game.
It didn't happen Friday, as they dropped their sixth straight, this time at the hands of the Edmonton Eskimos, who improved to 4-1 after a 30-5 win.
Edmonton boasts the CFL's best defense, having allowed only 63 points in five games, and they put on another clinic Friday night in front of their home crowd.
Roughriders quarterback Brett Smith, making his first career start, completed 15-of-22 passes for 132 yards, but was intercepted twice. Saskatchewan couldn't muster much on the ground, either, running back Jerome Messam and Smith combining for only 48 yards on six attempts between the two of them.
Eskimos quarterback Matt Nichols had a game, throwing for 300 yards and two touchdowns on 27-of-39 passing. He improves to 4-0 as a starter. His favourite target Friday was Adarius Bowman, who caught nine passes for 111 yards.
Edmonton's the first to four wins on the season, and in addition to the club's stingy defense, the Eskimos have scored a league-high 142 points.
