Edmonton Eskimos linebacker Dexter McCoil was named Most Outstanding Rookie on Thursday, following his impressive debut campaign.
McCoil made a case for himself as one of the best defensive players in the CFL, recording 67 tackles and four sacks and tying for the league lead with six interceptions. He also scored three defensive touchdowns in a season - a feat that has only been accomplished once before in league history.
McCoil is the first defensive player to be named top rookie since Solomon Elimimian in 2010. He won the award over East Division nominee Tristan Okpalaugo, who recorded 12 sacks in his rookie season for the Toronto Argonauts.
