Fred Stamps after loss to Stampeders: 'This will probably be my last game as an Eskimo'

If the Edmonton Eskimos hope to make it back to the West Division final next year, they'll likely be doing it without the help of one of their most prolific receivers.

Fred Stamps, who finished with two catches for 27 yards in Sunday's loss to the Calgary Stampeders, told Chris O'Leary of the Edmonton Journal his days with the Eskimos were likely over.

"This will probably be my last game as an Eskimo," said Stamps, who has 7,932 career receiving yards and 49 touchdowns since joining Edmonton in 2007 but saw his streak of five 1,000-yard seasons snapped due to injuries this year.

The Eskimos are the only CFL team Stamps has played for, but his role with the team appears to have diminished under new head coach Chris Jones. Adarius Bowman emerged as the top receiving option under Jones, finishing 2014 with a league-leading 1,456 receiving yards.

At 31 years old, Stamps is past the prime of his career, but he is only a season removed from recording over 1,000 yards and should still be a productive receiver if he can remain healthy. It doesn't sound like Stamps is ruling out a return to the football field, which could make him one of the most sought-after free agents of the upcoming offseason.
