Blue Bombers HC O'Shea, GM Walters sign 3-year extentions
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed head coach Mike O'Shea and general manager Kyle Walters to three-year contract extensions, the club announced Friday.
O'Shea led the Blue Bombers to 11 wins in 2016 - the team's most since 2003. The four-time Grey Cup champion (three as a player and one as an assistant) also got the Blue Bombers back to the playoffs for the first time since 2011, when Winnipeg lost to the BC Lions in the Grey Cup.
Walters also joined the Blue Bombers in 2013, hiring O'Shea as head coach. Under his guidance, Winnipeg has overhauled its roster, with nearly half of the 2016 squad made up of rookies and sophomores. Winnipeg holds the first overall pick in next year's CFL Draft as well, and acquired All-Star defensive back T.J. Heath during the season.
