Stampeders look to extend 16-game unbeaten streak against Alouettes

The Calgary Stampeders are having a season to remember.

The Stamps head into Sunday's battle with the Montreal Alouettes undefeated since Week 1. Bo Levi Mitchell leads the CFL in passing, though Drew Tate will start Sunday as the Stamps rest Mitchell for the playoffs.

A dominant passing game isn't all the Stamps boast. Running back Jerome Messam leads the league in rushing with 1,162 yards and 11 touchdowns.

The Alouettes have some difference-makers on defence, with the likes of league-leading tackler Bear Woods, as well as John Bowman, Winston Venable, and Chip Cox, but they'll need all hands on deck to stop the Stampeders' incredible run.

On the offensive side of the ball, the Alouettes are still searching for an identity weeks after the departure of Kevin Glenn to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the release of receivers Duron Carter and Kenny Stafford.

Quarterback Rakeem Cato has struggled this season, registering just two touchdown passes with seven interceptions in 10 games, and will need to rely on the likes of Nik Lewis and B.J. Cunningham as wideout options with Carter and Stafford now gone.

In the grand scheme of this year's playoff picture, this game carries no lasting ramifications. The Stampeders have already locked up the West Division, and Montreal has been mathematically eliminated from contention, along with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Toronto Argonauts.

The Stampeders could very well look to get a bunch of different players involved in this game, or we could be in for an aerial show if the Alouettes' defence isn't sharp.

Kickoff is set for Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. ET from Percival Molson Memorial Stadium.
