Alouettes hope to keep faint playoff hopes alive against Roughriders
The Saskatchewan Roughriders will aim to play spoiler when they host the Montreal Alouettes on Saturday.
Montreal's hopes for the postseason are slim in any case, as they'll need the Hamilton Tiger-Cats to lose just to stay in the race. The Alouettes have only managed four wins on the campaign and have dropped six of their past seven games.
Receivers Duron Carter and Kenny Stafford were released Monday, as the offense will be sporting a new look this week. In hopes of sparking the team, the Als are giving Vernon Adams his first career start over a struggling Rakeem Cato.
Adams lit it up last season as a senior at Oregon, throwing for 26 touchdowns and only six interceptions.
The Alouettes are meeting the Roughriders at the wrong time. After falling to 1-10 on the season, Saskatchewan has suddenly rebounded with four straight victories.
Roughriders quarterback Darian Durant has led the way during the resurgence, throwing for five scores and only one pick. The 34-year-old also topped the 300-yard passing mark in two of those contests.
Montreal claimed the only other meeting between the two sides this season, 41-3.
