Report: Argos expected to start Drew Willy for rest of season

Patrick Doyle / USA TODAY Sports

The Toronto Argonauts are expected to start Drew Willy for the rest of the season as well as in any potential playoff game, according to Matthew Scianitti of TSN.

Willy was acquired earlier this month in a trade with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and received his first start for the Argos in Sunday's loss to the Montreal Alouettes.

Toronto is in the midst of a slide that's seen the team drop seven of its past eight games. The Argos sit one game back of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats for second in the East, but wouldn't make the playoffs if the season ended today, as the Edmonton Eskimos would claim a crossover berth.

Scianitti adds that even if Ricky Ray is healthy, Willy will remain the starter. Ray went down with a deflated lung nearly a month ago and was expected to miss four-to-six weeks.

Willy went 24-of-35 for 226 yards and an interception in Sunday's loss.
