3 players who could help their team succeed in the Grey Cup

The Ottawa RedBlacks return to the Grey Cup after losing to Edmonton a year ago. This year they face another team from Alberta, in the likes of the 15-win Calgary Stampeders who have cruised through the 2016 season and postseason.

Here are three players to keep an eye on Sunday.

Juron Criner - RedBlacks

The RedBlacks threw for the most yards in the CFL this season, boasting four receivers who had 1,000 or more. However, it is a much less heralded one who has been a momentum changer.

Rookie Juron Criner caught just 12 receptions in the final six games, but had 269 yards and a touchdown. His 22.4 yards per catch was tops in the league among players with 12 or more receptions, by almost four yards.

In the East Final, Criner led the team with 88 receiving yards and tied for the lead with four receptions. Big plays change momentum, and Criner has proven to be that spark on offence for the RedBlacks in the seven games he played in this year.

Spencer Wilson - Stampeders

The Stampeders allowed a league low 20 quarterback sacks during the regular season and then followed it up with none against the BC Lions in the Western Final. As well, Calgary led the CFL in scoring.

On Thursday night, left tackle Derek Dennis was named the league's Most Outstanding Offensive Linemen.

However, even with earning all those feats, the Calgary offensive line was a revolving door. Though Dennis was named top lineman, he played two games at left guard and one at right due to other players suffering injuries.

In total 11 different players saw action on the offensive line, in a sport where only five can play at once.

The most important player along the offensive line this weekend will be Spencer Wilson, the only other Stamps player to play in every game this season.

Wilson played eight games at right guard, six at centre, and four at right tackle. The Toronto native is a jack of all trades and if he is to play at centre like he did last week, he will be the person who starts the high octane Calgary offence with every snap.

As well, if there is an injury, Wilson can shift and fill in anywhere else along the offensive line.

Arnaud Gascon-Nadon - RedBlacks

As mentioned above, the Stampeders' offensive line has been banged up. If Ottawa wants to slow down the highest scoring team in the CFL this season, it will have to get to the quarterback.

Defensive end Arnaud Gascon-Nadon dressed in just nine games during the regular season, but registered six sacks.

Returning to the lineup in the middle of October, Gascon-Nadon has five tackles in his last four games, but three have gone for sacks. His playmaking ability from his defensive end spot, along with Calgary's line woes, could provide the RedBlacks a chance at disrupting the Stampeders' high flying offence.
