Lions visit Eskimos aiming for 4th straight victory

Two teams going in opposite directions will meet Friday when the Edmonton Eskimos host the BC Lions.

BC (8-3) rolls in as winners of five straight, but can't make up any ground on the Western Division leading Calgary Stampeders. The Lions sit just ahead of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in second spot, thanks to the sparkling play of quarterback Jonathon Jennings.

Any concerns about Jennings being the full-time starter this season soon evaporated, as the signal-caller has thrown for more than 3,000 yards and 13 touchdowns to only six interceptions.

That being said, Jennings has cooled some in recent weeks, finding the end zone through the air just twice in his past four games.

Edmonton (5-7) is going the other way, dropping its past three games. Two of those have come at the hands of the first place Stampeders, but their most recent defeat was a disappointing setback against the 2-10 Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The Eskimos' defense has struggled throughout the losing streak, conceding 106 points over the stretch, and the team is now in danger of falling out of the playoff race in the West.

Edmonton's defensive woes could be a recipe for Jennings and the Lions' passing game to once again start finding the end zone with regularity, and if that happens, expect BC's winning ways to continue.
