Stampeders visit Blue Bombers in pivotal West showdown

It might only be July, but the Winnipeg Blue Bombers are already in danger of digging themselves into a major hole in the Western Division.

The Blue Bombers will entertain the Calgary Stampeders on Thursday night and will hope to avoid their fourth loss of the season. Only the winless Saskatchewan Roughriders sit below them in the Western Division standings.

Drew Willy remains the starter for Winnipeg despite some struggles in recent weeks. The quarterback has managed only two touchdown passes over his past two games, causing some to speculate if Matt Nichols should receive an opportunity. Willy also tossed a pair of interceptions in last week's loss to the Edmonton Eskimos.

It may not matter who's behind centre against the Stamps, though, as Calgary has owned the Blue Bombers in Winnipeg lately. The Stampeders are undefeated at Investors Group Field since its opening in 2013.

Dave Dickenson's crew is also coming off a bye, a scenario that Calgary hasn't lost since 2005.

The Stamps (1-1-1) should enter this one brimming with confidence after a strong outing against the CFL's lone unbeaten team. Calgary tied the Ottawa RedBlacks, as quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell threw for 368 yards and a pair of scores.
