Alouettes sign QB Vernon Adams Jr. to 3-year deal

Scott Olmos-USA TODAY Sports

Vernon Adams Jr. is officially a member of the Montreal Alouettes, as the former Oregon star inked a three-year deal with the club, just days after they acquired his rights from the BC Lions.

The 5-foot-11, 200-pound pivot starred for Oregon in the 2015 season, throwing for 2,643 yards and 26 touchdowns while also rushing for two scores. Prior to joining the Ducks as a graduate transfer, Adams was a star at the FCS level for Eastern Washington.

The 23-year-old threw for a very impressive 13,081 yards in his three-year career with the Eagles, while accounting for 136 total touchdowns. His final two seasons with Eastern Washington saw the quarterback named as a finalist for the Walter Payton Award, which goes to the top offensive player at the FCS level.

After failing to be selected in the 2016 NFL Draft, Adams attended tryouts with the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Redskins before landing with the BC Lions. The club failed to reach terms with the California native, and dealt his rights to Montreal for a future first-round pick.

Adams joins a crowded quarterback situation for the Alouettes, who currently have Tajh Boyd, Brandon Bridge, Rakeem Cato, Jonathan Crompton, Kevin Glenn, Drew Burko, and Jimmy Underdahl on the roster.
