Navratilova critical of Serena's doubles exit: 'Whatever they're saying it was, I don't think that was it'
The way Serena Williams exited her doubles match at Wimbledon on Tuesday caused many to raise an eyebrow.
After the match, the official reason given for her early departure was called a "viral illness."
Nine-time Wimbledon singles champion and Tennis Channel analyst Martina Navratilova isn't willing to accept that explanation.
"I find it distressing," Navratilova said, via ESPN. "I think virus, whatever they're saying it was, I don't think that was it. I think it's clear that's not the case. I don't know what it is, but I hope Serena will be OK. And most of all, I don't know how she ended up walking onto the court."
The start of the match was delayed for 14 minutes while a tournament doctor tended to the younger Williams sister.
The WTA reported that Wimbledon and WTA staff cheked on Serena Wednesday morning, saying that "she is resting there and feeling slightly better."
