XFL suspends season indefinitely amid coronavirus concerns
The XFL has suspended its season due to public health and safety concerns related to the coronavirus.
"Currently, the XFL will not be playing its regular-season games," the league said Thursday in a statement. "However, all players will be paid their base pay and benefits for the 2020 regular season. All XFL ticket holders will be issued refunds or credit toward future games. The XFL is committed to playing a full season in 2021 and future years."
The XFL had been gearing up for Week 6. The league was in its first season since announcing its reboot.
The Houston Roughnecks held the league's best record with a mark of 5-0. They were followed by the DC Defenders, New York Guardians and St. Louis BattleHawks, who were all 3-2. The Dallas Renegades and Los Angeles Wildcats were each 2-3, while the Tampa Bay Vipers and Seattle Dragons both sat at 1-4.
Major sports leagues across the globe have suspended events because of the coronavirus, which emanated in China.
