Todd Okerlund, son of WWE Hall of Famer "Mean" Gene Okerlund, says his father was seriously injured in a fall at his Florida home in December, which triggered a series of complications leading to his death.
WWE announced Wednesday that the legendary interviewer and announcer had passed away at the age of 76.
Todd told TMZ Sports his father suffered multiple broken ribs in the fall and was treated at a hospital in Sarasota, Fla. Gene had been having health issues for a while but Todd said the fall made things worse.
Four days before his death, Gene was admitted to a nursing home. He began having trouble breathing and was transported to a hospital, where he died with his wife, Jeanne, by his side.
