Luke Harper was ready to quit wrestling before WWE called
Luke Harper's path to WWE wasn't easy.
The current SmackDown Live tag-team champion, whose real name is Jon Huber, recently sat down to talk with Adam Chodak of Rochester First. Harper recalled his early years moonlighting as an amateur wrestler who paid the bills working in a library, revealing that he was ready to walk away from the sport of wrestling for good before landing a tryout with WWE.
"My wife told me she was pregnant and I lost my job," Huber recalled. "I was a librarian at Frederick Douglas Middle School and so I thought the world was over and they (WWE) called and said, 'Hey, can you come for a trial?' and I said, 'No, I have a broken leg.'"

Six months later, WWE came calling again.
"My wife was eight months pregnant and I was just coming back from Japan and I said, 'Honey, I'm done, this is it, I'm just going to go get another real job and we'll make do here,' and that's the day (WWE called saying), 'Hey, can you come for a tryout?'" Huber said.
And the rest is history.
