Another edition of the FIFA Women's World Cup is set to begin, as 24 nations battle for the most prestigious trophy in football.

There's been no shortage of spectacular goals throughout the tournament's history, starting with Ingrid Johansson's mesmerising strike, to Marta's breathtaking skills to send Brazil to the finals in 2011.

Here's a collection of the top five goals as we get set for the seventh edition of the FIFA Women's World Cup:

There's no denying Brazil is a football factory for both men and women. Sissi was the country's first superstar in the early years of the tournament, before the arrival of Marta. The attack midfielder led the 1999 tournament in scoring with seven goals, including this curling free-kick during injury time against Nigeria to send Brazil to the semi-finals.

4. Sweden's Johansson vs. USA (1991)

Ingrid Johansson erased any myths about women's soccer when she unleashed a 45-yard screamer against the United States during the inaugural Women's World Cup. Sweden would go on to finish third, while the U.S. became the tournament's first champion.

3. North Korea's Ri vs. Sweden (2007)

The 2007 tournament is where North Korea proved it belongs on the biggest stage of women's football.

The country recorded its best-ever record after advancing to the quarter-finals before being eliminated by eventual champions Germany. Ri Un Suk provided a special moment for the country when a powerful kick from 28-yards out smashed the back of the net to bring the country level with Sweden in a group stage match.

Superstars at the Women's World Cup don't get much bigger than Brazil's Marta.

The speedy forward flashed her brilliance during her country's semi-final showdown with the United States. Supporters at China's Yellow Dragon Stadium were in a state of awe when Marta's clever backheel flick eluded the defender and allowed her to go in alone on goal where some creative footwork created enough space for Brazil's third goal en route to a 4-0 win.

1. Sweden's Hammarstrom vs. France (2011)

Of the 625 goals scored during the tournament's 24-year history, Marie Hammarstrom's goal against France tops them all.

The Swedish midfielder completely destroyed defenders before hammering in a left-footed shot to give her country the lead and eventual victory in the third-place match at the 2011 Women's World Cup in Germany.
