Lisicki tops Strycova after incredible 3rd set comeback
No. 24 Sabine Lisicki came back from four games down in the final set to knock 42nd-ranked Barbora Strycova out of the US Open, winning 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 to reach the Round of 16 at a Grand Slam for the first time this year.
The 2013 Wimbledon runner-up was in tears after winning the match's final six games to clinch the victory in what'll be the last match ever played on Grandstand. The third largest US Open stadium will be torn down after the tournament.
Strycova eliminated No. 14 Timea Bacsinszky in straight sets to open the tournament before needing three sets to get past Wang Qiang in Round 2 on Thursday. She beat Lisicki in their only previous meeting at the Qatar Total Open in February.
Lisicki will have her hands full in the Round of 16 where she'll face No. 2 seed Simona Halep. She holds a 1-3 head-to-head record against the Romanian, with her win dating back to 2011.
