Jankovic, Lisicki book spots in semifinals at Indian Wells
Jelena Jankovic didn't have to expend much energy Thursday as she defeated Lesia Tsurenko to earn a semifinal berth at Indian Wells.
Tsurenko was forced to retire while trailing 6-1, 4-1 because of an ankle injury. She suffered the ailment in her fourth-round victory over Eugenie Bouchard, but wasn't able to overcome the pain against Jankovic.
Up next for Jankovic is German Sabine Lisicki, who survived a wild match with Flavia Pennetta, 6-4, 6-7, 7-6.
Pennetta is the defending champion at Indian Wells and it took Lisicki two hours and 40 minutes to knock her out. The match was as close as it sounds, with Lisicki winning 123 points and Pennetta taking 120.
Jankovic would appear to have the edge in their semifinal showdown, owning a 4-1 career record over Lisicki.
