After declaring her intent to return to professional tennis after a five-year layoff, Marion Bartoli announced Wednesday that she'll end her comeback bid.
The 33-year-old Frenchwoman took to social media to declare that a return just isn't to be, citing pain in her right shoulder during workouts:
Due to a litany of injuries, Bartoli retired from tennis while ranked No. 7 in the world just six weeks after winning her lone major at Wimbledon in 2013. With a quirky style of play, she cruised through the competition at the All England Club that year without dropping a set.
