Javier Mascherano's World Cup semifinal looked to be over in the first half after the Argentine midfielder clashed heads with a Netherlands player during Wednesday's match.
Mascherano was seen stumbling on the field and eventually fell to the ground after the collision with Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum when the two players challenged for a ball in the air. The Aregntine came off the worse for wear after his forehead hit the back of Wijnaldum's head.
After going off the field for treatment, Mascherano surprisingly returned to the pitch, thus raising questions once again about FIFA's concussion protocol.
