VIDEO: President Barack Obama calls Clint Dempsey, Tim Howard to congratulate them
You know that classic Hollywood moment when the President of United States calls a team that fell short to congratulate them for making the country proud?
Well, that's exactly what happened this week, when following the United States' round-of-16 elimination against Belgium, Barack Obama called captain Clint Dempsey and goalkeeper Tim Howard to congratulate them for their showing at the World Cup.
During the conversation, Obama admits that his "first sport was soccer although I was never that good," states his belief that "this is the first time where I think that you really ended up having an entire country focused," and tells Tim Howard to shave his beard in order to survive the anticipated mobs back home.
United States Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel also called Howard to thank him for "defending USA."
