Brazil Squad Report: Indomitable Lions next on the docket
Brazil will need a point from their final Group A game to secure a place in the round of 16.
That shouldn't be a difficult task after watching Cameroon get walloped by Croatia on Wednesday in Manaus. The Indomitable Lions fell 4-0 and were thoroughly outclassed from the opening whistle onward.
Alex Song was shown a red card after lashing out at Mario Mandzukic in the first half. In the second half, Benoît Assou-Ekotto headbutted teammate Benjamin Moukandjo. Yes, it was that bad for Cameroon, who saw their dreams of advancing to the knockout round end in embarrassment.
Head Coach Volker Finke was left stunned and disappointed by his team's actions in the amazon.
“It’s clear we have to find the reasons for what’s going on because such behaviour is really disgusting, it won’t do, it’s impossible," said Finke, according to the Guardian.
“A result like this is a shame for Cameroon. I think until the red card it was a little bit of a match at the same level, perhaps the Croatians were more efficient but Cameroon also had good some chances. We now have to sleep and do an analysis and then we can announce something. There will be consequences stemming from this.”
For Brazil this means preparing to face a lifeless opponent on Monday. Unlike Croatia, Mexico was unable to run up their goal tally against the Lions. Brazil will get that chance and will be able to secure Group A in the process. First place means a date with the Netherlands or Chile in the round of 16.
Fixtures/Results
