Russia captain Roman Shirokov will miss the World Cup after failing to recover from a knee injury.
Shirokov suffered the injury in April and is set to undergo surgery in Finland next week.
Rubin Kazan midfielder Pavel Mogilevets will replace the Zenit St. Petersburg star in the squad, according to the BBC.
"Shirokov is a very important member of Russia's squad but I hope that the rest of the players will be able to perform at their best level in Brazil," said Russia manager Fabio Capello.
