The search for Ronald Koeman's successor came to an end as the Netherlands announced the appointment of Frank de Boer on Wednesday.

The Dutch legend agreed to a two-year contract and will oversee the nation's bid to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

De Boer's arrival ends the Netherlands' month-long search for Koeman's replacement after the 57-year-old stepped down in August to become Barcelona's new manager.

The 50-year-old De Boer, who is the Netherlands' second-most capped outfield player of all time, last coached Atlanta United before leaving the Major League Soccer club by mutual consent in July.
